Amazon, UPS fined $500,000 over delivery delays in California

California regulators have announced they have reached a settlement with Amazon over the retail giant’s delivery courier service, and they have come to an agreement with UPS, too.

Amazon will pay $500,000 in fines over the lengthy periods between when it received order notification and when it took delivery — and the charges will be spread across both UPS and Amazon’s payment partners. The long delay means customers did not have the satisfaction of knowing that their package had arrived and opened on the promised day — and the companies have agreed to compensate affected customers.

A few people had complained of being left frustrated on the Amazon website after not receiving their package or an apology, and regulators determined the penalty was appropriate and in the public interest, according to the publication The Sacramento Bee. The attorney general’s office also warned that its investigation into the long delays will continue.
